Azure DevOps to Jira migration
Client: German luxury automotive brand
Location: Germany, Stuttgart
Scope
Migrating Azure DevOps to Jira Data Center. License for Azure DevOps for Jira integration, sync, migration full service consulting , with getint.io consulting services, custom development, testing and full migration execution. The Client chose On-Premise (self-hosted) version of our platform.
About the Client
Our client is one of the world’s most successful automotive companies, and one of the leading global suppliers of premium and luxury cars and vans. The Company offers financing, leasing, car subscription and car rental, fleet management, digital services for charging and payment, insurance brokerage, as well as innovative mobility services.
The challenge
The challenge was to migrate projects, and tasks from the Azure DevOps instance, to the Jira Data Center. Client’s team needed not just the license, but also the consulting services, including the execution of the whole migration process. During the preparation of migration, it was necessary to provide some custom development services to meet the needs of the Client, which our team happily did.
The scope was to migrate “Risks”, “Bugs”, “Work Tasks”, “Features”, “User Stories”, and “Sub-Tasks” with assignees, attachments, comments, and statuses. Additionally, we agreed to migrate Azure DevOps specific fields like “Area Path”, and “Iteration Path”. Some of the Azure DevOps fields were supposed to be mapped directly to the “Description” field in Jira, which required adding custom scripts. The historical issues had a dedicated tag “jira-migration”, and the goal was to migrate only those, plus all the issues from the month proceeding the migration.
Solution
The Client decided to purchase the license + services via Atlassian Partner which is often the case for big companies such as this one. It allows us to quickly jump on a project without the need of losing time to be added as a Contractor. Due to the very high-security standards, the Client decided to choose an on-premise (self-hosted) version of the getint.io application.
Our team migrated data to 9 newly created Jira projects, from 18 Azure DevOps Area Paths. Of course, first, we did it on the dev-instance.
Daimler team professionalism and expertise were on a very high level — the requirements were clear, and often challenging. The whole process took about 1 month to complete.
Results
- Successful Migration of 9 projects from Azure DevOps to Jira
- Thousands of Azure DevOps work items migrated
